MODECEF 250

MODECEF 250

Cephradine is a semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It is rapidly
absorbed following oral administration in the fasting state.
The presence of food in the gastrointestinal tract delays the
absorption but does not affect the total amount of cephradine
 absorbed.
Cephradine is a broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic active
against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including:
 β-hemolytic Streptococci, Staphylococci,including  penicillinase
producing strains, Streptococci pneumonia, Escherichia coli,
Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species and Hemophilus influenza.
Cephradine is not active against most strains of Enterobacter
species, Enterococci,P.morganii,P.vulgaris. It has no activity against
 Pseudomonas and Herellea species.

- Each capsule of MODECEF® 500 contains:
Cephradine 500 mg (as Cephradine Monohydrate USP)
-  Each capsule of MODECEF® 250 contains:
Cephradine  250 mg (as Cephradine Monohydrate USP)
- Each  5ml of MODECEF® 250 for oral suspension  contains:
Cephradine 250 mg (as Cephradine Monohydrate USP)

Cephradine 125 mg (as Cephradine Monohydrate USP)

MODECEF®is contraindicated in patients with known
 hypersensitivity to any cephalosporin antibiotic.

- (Amino glycosides, colisten, polymyxins, vancomycin) when
administered concurrently with cephalosporin may increase the
 possibility of nephrotoxicity.
- Potent loop diuretics such as (furosemide and ethacrynic acid)
 enhanced possibility for renal toxicity.
- Probenecid increase and prolong blood levels of cephalosporin,
resulting in increased risk of nephrotoxicity

This drug should be used only if clearly needed.

As with other cephalosporin adverse reactions are limited essentially
to gastrointestinal disturbances and on occasion, to hypersensitivity
 phenomena.

- No  adequate information is available on the efficacy of b.i.d.
regimens of  MODECEF®  in  children under nine months.
- MODECEF®  used with caution in patients of markedly impaired
renal function or in patient with known or suspected renal
 impairment.
- A false  positive reaction for glucose  in the urine may occur with
Bendict’s solution, Fehling’s solution  or with Clinitest®  tablet but
not with enzyme based test such as Clinistix  and  Tes –Tape.
- A false positive direct  coombs test has been reported after treatment
 with cephalosporin.
