Antibiotics & Antibacterial

- CEPHALEXIN®is a broad spectrum antibiotic effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms including: penicillinase-producing strains Staphylococci, β-haemolytic streptococci, Pneumococci,  E. coli.
- CEPHALEXIN® is not destroyed by gastric acid, it is  almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and produces peak plasma concentration about one hour after oral administration.
- About 90% of the drug is excreted unchanged in the urine within  6 hours. CEPHALEXIN® is also excreted through the bile. 

Indecation

 CEPHALEXIN® is indicated in the following infections caused by susceptible organisms:
- Infections of respiratory tract: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, pulmonary abscess & empyema and sinusitis.
- Infections of genito- urinary tract: pyelonephritis,  cystitis and acute prostatitis.   
- Gynecological and obstetrical infections: endometritis.
- Other infections: skin and soft tissue infections, bone and soft joint infections as osteomyelitis, septic arthritis and otitis media.

Dosage & Administration

Adults:     
  250-500 mg every 6 hours: In severe infections up to 4 gm daily divided into 4 doses evrey 6 hours can be taken.
   Children: 
  25-50 mg /kg body weight daily in 4 divided doses every 6 hours. 
 - Or as directed by the physician.
 -Treatment should be continued for 48 -72 hours after the patient becomes asymptomatic.

 contains:
  Cephalexin 500 mg (as Cephalexin Monohydrate USP) 
-Each capsule of CEPHALEXIN® 250 Capsules 
 contains: 
 Cephalexin 250 mg (as Cephalexin Monohydrate USP)
-Each 5 ml of CEPHALEXIN® 250Oral suspension  
 contains:
 Cephalexin 250 mg (as Cephalexin Monohydrate USP)
-Each 5 ml of CEPHALEXIN® 125 Oral suspension 
 contains: 
 Cephalexin 125 mg (as Cephalexin Monohydrate USP).

 CEPHALEXIN®  should not be administere to patients who have shown hypersensitivity to cephalosporin.   

 Caution should be observed because CEPHALEXIN®  diffuses across the placenta and small quantities are found in the milk of nursing mothers. 
 

 - As with other cephalosporins, few patients may experience some gastrointestinal disturbances: diarrhea,   nausea and vomiting.
 - Very  rarely allergic manifestations, superinfec
 - tions (upon prolonged administration) and other rare adverse  reactions may occur.

 CEPHALEXIN®  should be given cautious to patient with a history of allergy such as asthma, hay fever or urticaria.   
 If hypersensitivity reaction occurs the drug should be  discontinued and appropriate treatment to be instituted.
 - For patients with impaired renal function the dose should be reduced.
 - CEPHALEXIN®  should be administerd with caution to patients known to be hypersensitive to pencillin.
 - As a result of administration of CEPHALEXIN® a false positive reaction for glucose in the urine may occur with Benedict,s and Fehling,s solutions and also with clinitest tablets.

    (Blister of 10 capsules, Pack of two blisters)   
 - Hospital packs of different sizes.
 - CEPHALEXIN®Oral suspension 125 mg or 250 mg 
    (Bottles of 100 ml after reconstitntion)
 -in fant drops (Bottle of 10 ml after reconstitntion)

- Store in a dry place at a temperature below 25°C.
