- Calcium carbonate is an inorganic salt. It is converted to
calcium chloride by gastric acid. Some of calcium is
absorbed from the intestine.
-Absorption of calcium is affected by presence of food.
Absorption also is increased in calcium deficiency and
during periods of high physiological requirement as
during childhood or pregnancy and lactation .
-Unabsorbed calcium is eliminated in feces, together with
secreted in bile and pancreatic juice, Excess calcium is
excreted by renal.
