- Fonoril® contains the active substance fosfomycin
(as fosfomycin trometamol).
It is an antibiotic that works by killing bacteria which can

Fonoril® used for :
- Single dose treatment for urinary tract infection.
- Prevention of infections subsequent to surgical or diagnostic
procedures of the lower urinary tract.
- Treatment of uncomplicated infection of the bladder in
women and female adolescents..
- As antibiotic prophylaxis for transrectal prostate biopsy in
- This medicine is usually not intended for infants and
children under the age of 12 years nor for patients weighing
less than 50 kg.

For the treatment of urinary tract infection & bladder
infection:
This medicine should be administered as a single dose.
As preventive treatment:
One sachet 3 hours before surgical or diagnostic procedure
and one sachet 24 hours afterwards.
- Empty the entire contents of the sachet into a full cup of
water or any other non-alcoholic beverage, and stir well
until the powder is dissolved. Drink the entire contents
of the cup immediately.
- This medicine should be taken on an empty stomach, about 2
to 3 hours before or after a meal, preferably before bedtime
after emptying the urinary bladder.
- After taking Fonoril® improvement should be expected
within 2 to 3 days.
Fonoril® sachet contains:
Fosfomycin(As Fosfomycin Trometamol) 3g
Do not take Fonoril® with:
- Metoclopramide or other medicinal products that increase the
movement of food through the stomach and intestines,
because they may reduce the uptake of fosfomycin by your
body.
- Anticoagulants, as their ability to prevent your blood from
clotting might be altered by fosfomycin and other antibiotics.
- Don’t use Fonoril® during pregnancy or lactaion unless it is
advised to do so by physician.
Serious side effects
While taking Fonoril®, if you develop any of the following
symptoms you should stop taking the medicine and contact
your doctor immediately:
- Anaphylactic shock, a life threatening type of allergic
reaction (the frequency is unknown). Symptoms include a
sudden onset of rash, itching or hives on the skin and or
shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty in breathing,
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat with breathing
difficulties(angioedema) (the frequency is unknown),
- Moderate to severe diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloody stools
and/or fever may mean that you have an infection of the large
intestine (antibiotic-associatedcolitis) (the frequency is
unknown). Do not take medicines against diarrhea that inhibit
the bowel movements (antiperistaltics).
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Headache,dizziness,diarrhea, nausea, indigestion &
abdominal pain
- Infection of the female genital organs with symptoms like
inflammation,irritation, itching (vulvovaginitis).
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Vomiting, rash, urticaria & itching
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the
available data): Allergic reactions.
- Do not take Fonoril® if you are allergic to fosfomycin or
any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using
Fonoril® if you suffer from one of the following disorders:
- Persistent infections of the bladder,
- Previously had diarrhea after taking any other antibiotics
- Fonoril® Sachet: One sachet per pack.
